After rebuilding our vintage van, Bert, from the ground up, we’ve put together a list of everything that went into the process- from the structural build to the final decorative touches.
Whether you're tackling a full rebuild or just making a few upgrades, we hope that this checklist can help make the process feel a little less overwhelming for you!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

WIRING

Most of the wiring below can be sourced locally, and cut to suit your needs:
☐ 2 meters 000 B&S Single core red cable 95mm
☐ 2 meters 000 B&S single core black cable 95mm
☐ 8 B&S twin core Red and black cable for dcdc run to bus bars and Anderson plugs
☐ 6mm dual core cable for MPPT (runs from ppt to bus bars - positive runs through a midi fuse before connecting to positive bus bar)
For your fused accessories box, run dual core wiring to neg and pos bus bars. A cable of your choice can be used-I used a 6mm dual core cable.
LUGS
☐ Crimper (must have!)
☐ 15X 95-08 Copper crimp lugs (for all runs to batteries through main mega fuse / inverter and bus bars)
☐ 2x 95-10 copper crimp lugs (for the master switch)
☐ 10x 35-08 copper crimp lugs
☐ Heat shrink
These are the main lugs you will require. When it comes to the midi fuse for the solar output (on the positive side of the MPPT controller), lugs can vary depending on what wire size you choose to run. Your local auto store will stock a heap of different sizes, so don’t stress when it comes to this part of the setup. The midi fuse used in our build was a M5 stud.
